AFGE - Americas Union. Conversations that lead, build, and grow our future.
The Official AFGE's 11th District website can be found at www.afged11.org
This is a personal website constructed by Gerald Swanke. Any statement or opinion therein does not reflect any policy position or endorsement by the AFGE.
But maybe it should.......
Background
AFGE held a strategic planning meeting in Chicago in the fall of 2000. The format was designed by a team composed of elected leaders of councils, locals, and NEC, as well as representatives
of the AFGE staff. That meeting led to the first strategic plan for AFGE-and I believe was uniquely designed for success by enforcing dialogue among cross sections of the organization.
Those conversations were not dominated by any one perspective. For example-at each table there may have been a Local President from one agency, a steward from another, a council representative and
maybe a staff member or NEC member. But each representative from different districts and backgrounds. Diversity was critical for the broad and honest dialogue, analysis, and brainstorming at each table
leading to consensus planning by the entire group.
The meeting lacked "decision authority". BUT this basis of informality gave our ideas intellectual credibility. Today there is no way for us to have that exchange at a national convention. And we need some
broad based leadership conversations to ensure AFGE strategically plans our future.
Purpose of Site
1. Lead towards another strategic planning meeting
2. Offer open and honest exchange of ideas, brainstorming, and gathering the best thinking possible in aid of AFGE's future as a whole.
3. Nope. I'm not running for an office at the convention. I have the best job in the best district. My motivation-and I hope yours-is to help build AFGE better. Not create another forum for AFGE
internal politics. Like we don't have enough of those already........
Use Policy
Contained inside the secured area is a free exchange of posts. You must apply for a password to enter. You must be an officer or steward of an AFGE local to participate.
Strategic Objectives
Each post will require everyone's real name and local number. In doing so, "street credibility" will self police productive conversations.
1. Honest analysis of best practices vs. areas in need of value and resource improvement
2. Strategically map ways for our communications, representation, legislative and political organizing. And organizing is integral in each of those pillars
3. Respectful and reasoned discourse. I won't delete political statements and agendas-as long as they are proposed in the context of how they help build the organization and move us strategically
